OPEN, MODULAR, AND SCALABLE ARCHITECTURES FOR LAND VEHICLES

What is Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA)?

Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) is the U.K. Ministry of Defence’s mandate for the use of open, modular, and scalable architectures in the design of new and upgraded ground vehicles. Outlined in Ministry of Defence Standard (Def Stan) 2309, the goal of the GVA approach is to realize operational, technical, and cost benefits by promoting open standards for software and hardware interfaces to enable simple and rapid replacements or upgrades of equipment as needed.

GVA does not suggest specific solutions but defines a generic architecture that is platform- and vendor-agnostic and can be tailored to design requirements. In this architecture, interoperability is enabled by the Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware system, a generic software interface that allows the exchange of data between equipment of different manufacturers.

GVA ready solutions help combat obsolescence and enable an upgrade path that accelerates and simplifies the addition of new capabilities to vehicles in the future. Using a GVA ready multi-function crew display and control unit enables the integration of multiple electronic subsystems while reducing cabling weight and clutter.

At the frontline of bringing GVA architecture into ground vehicles, rugged COTS technologies from Curtiss-Wright are helping to showcase the benefits of adopting a common communications architecture and consolidating modern computing and networking architectures for SWaP optimization.

Trusted, Proven GVA Solutions

Curtiss-Wright’s GVA-ready solutions are engineered to optimize SWaP, flexibility, and modularity in ground vehicle systems while ensuring scalability and interoperability with legacy systems. Beyond delivering these benefits to ground vehicle designers and the armies they provide for, these open standards-based solutions improve the in-vehicle experience for today’s warfighters. By reducing system complexity and clutter while enhancing situational awareness, Curtiss-Wright solutions provide the performance and reliability ground vehicle operators can trust to protect them as they protect our nations.

DBH-670

The DBH-670 integrates a multi-functional vehicle computer, a powerful Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch, and a power-efficient Arm® computer in a single box. It includes GVA- and VICTORY-compliant dual GbE connectors and GVA input power connectors.

DBH-670A

The DBH-670A builds on the DBH-670’s design to provide additional assured positioning, navigation, and timing (A-PNT) capabilities. It also includes GVA- and VICTORY-compliant dual GbE connectors and GVA input power connectors.
